WHAT ARE TERMITES?

Termites, often called ‘white ants’ aren’t ants at all – in fact they are closely related to the cockroach!

Termites are masters of disguise and scientists believe they’ve been around for 200 million years or more – they were around when the dinosaurs were, and they’re still with us! They are predominately subterranean, and in Australia over 300 species are known to exist. Fortunately only a few species are problematic timber pest termites but those few species create absolute havoc if left unchecked.

A typical colony can consist of several million termites. They have a strict hierarchical structure, with the queen at the top. She is responsible for producing in excess of 1000 eggs a day to ensure survival of the colony. Next are her consorts and attendants, followed by the soldier termites responsible for guarding the colony.

It is important to note that the soldiers are all totally dependent on the workers to feed them. They comprise 10 % of the colony. The workers make up the other 90% and are responsible for processing food and feeding the colony.

The EBC Enviro Bug Control system takes full advantage of termites’ natural behavior, using the worker termites themselves to carry the infection back to the nest.

HOW DO I FIND THE NEST?

It is often very difficult to find the nest as termites are extremely clever at hiding it, naturally – that’s helped them stay around for over 200 million years! They can also have a number of sub nests well away from the main nest site – the termite version of sub stations. Even highly experienced pest controllers have problems trying to find the main nest. On the plus side, when you use EBC Termite Monitoring and Treatment Stations, the termites themselves do the job of taking the growth regulator all the way back to the nest for you.

HOW WILL I KNOW IF THERE ARE TERMITES IN MY BUILDINGS?

Usually you won’t know until some damage has been done and there are obvious signs such as bulges, discoloration or dampness in walls, termite mud along skirting boards, door jambs etc. As well as following our free 7 Easy Steps to Termite Control, it is extremely important to have at least an annual inspection by a timber pest controller.

IF I FIND TERMITES IN MY BUILDING WHAT SHOULD I DO?

You should immediately engage a reputable timber pest controller for treatment of the infestation to prevent further damage. This treatment however will not necessarily kill the main nest. Therefore at the same time you should purchase the EBC Treatment and Monitoring System and create a perimeter defense around your building. This allows you to take control of both the monitoring and the killing of the nest and the queen.

CAN I CARRY OUT MY OWN TREATMENTS?

Yes, with this system you can. Most effective poison spray chemicals, including most non hazardous growth regulator chemicals are APVMA registered for use by licensed timber pest controllers only, and are not available to the general public. However our system allows you to DO IT YOURSELF with a registered APVMA approved growth regulator treatment that is safe for you and the environment.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO INSTALL AN EBC ENVIRO BUG CONTROL TERMITE MONITORING AND TREATMENT SYSTEM?

NOW is the best time! If termites haven’t infested your building already, this gives you a head start. Monthly monitoring means early detection and treatment of the termites before they become a problem.
